5 basic Rules of Personal Branding! (Part 1)
In our social media-driven society, it is helpful and to some extent necessary to stand out from the crowd when applying for a job or running a business.
The right I-brand helps you become known as an expert in your field and keep getting business. Ideally, it becomes "thank you for being here".
Below I give you 5 basic rules for an appealing and unique I-brand:
1. Have a focus.
Find, decide and focus on your core message(s) and target group(s). Think niche, because the best I-brands are very specific. The more focused and specific your I-brand is, the easier it is for people to remember you.
2. Be authentic.
Be your best self, professionally and personally: genuine and authentic. Be a master (expert) of your skills, field and/or industry before you want to be an I-brand.
3. Be unique and consistent.
Create something unique that people can associate with your I-brand and more or less fall in love with. Be consistent in your communication, your seriousness, your appearance and your brand promise. Even small inconsistencies can affect the effectiveness of your I-brand.
4. Live your brand.
Even if the effect of your I-brand is primarily to be achieved in your professional life, your private life is difficult to separate from it. Authenticity encompasses the overall picture of your expertise as well as your motives, attitudes, values, etc. and thus the overall picture of your personality.
5. Tell your story.
Create a story around your I-brand that your target group(s) can identify with. The most personal way to communicate online is via video.
