Nanda Lal Sutradhar holds a bachelor's degree (with honours) and a master's degree in social welfare from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. He also has a postgraduate diploma in NGO leadership and management, a global partnership programme offered by SIT (School for International Training) in the USA.
He began his professional career as Assistant Unit Administrator at UCEP (Underprivileged Children's Educational Programmes) in Bangladesh, where approx. 35,000 students per annum are taught in 36 technical schools and 8 polytechnic institutes. In this role, he was primarily responsible for creating lesson plans, developing teaching materials as well as organising parent and community meetings.
For more than 25 years, he has worked for a wide range of humanitarian public and private aid organisations in the fields of development aid and emergency aid, gaining extensive experience in various specialist and management positions. His roles have included Project & Programme Manager, Area Development Coordinator, Local Group Coordinator and Legal Aid & Governance Expert/Consultant, and he has progressed to become Head of Social Reintegration, Deputy Director and Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP).
During this time, Nanda Lal Sutradhar was responsible for a wide range of development and aid projects in the areas of legal aid and advocacy, local administration, civil society engagement, democracy, transparency and anti-corruption, rural economy, climate, flood reconstruction, education, children's rights, gender, health, awareness of people with disabilities, acid attack victims, as well as peace and justice.
His responsibilities included, among other things, change coaching, social media campaigns, negotiation, job creation, planning and coordination of multi-donor project funds, planning and monitoring of grant utilisation, development of national strategies for operations/supply chain, management of projects and campaigns, grant teams, as well as staff in the areas of administration, human resources, finance, and logistics.
His successes include, among other things, the implementation of 2G in 72 offices of the Area Development Programme (ADP) as part of the World Vision project ‘Sustainability of the Sundarbans Reserve Forest’ as well as the establishment and administration of legal aid offices in 32 districts and 8 clusters as part of the USAID project ‘Ain Shohayota Activity’.
He has repeatedly demonstrated his professional and leadership skills in collaborating and coordinating with a wide range of donor organisations, NGOs, foundations, ministries, government agencies, associations, citizens' forums and other interest groups, as well as with media and the parliament.
