Marco Cerchiari studied aeronautical engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan in Italy and graduated with a master's degree in aeronautical engineering with a score of 94/100. He also has a master's degree in workplace’s safety/prevention and is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt.

After completing his studies, he began his professional career as a design engineer at a company that manufactures automatic doors for transport and rail vehicles. He then worked as a Quality Assurance and Test Engineer Manager at HP S.r.l. in Sassuolo, Italy, where he achieved ISO 9001 certification.

Marco Cerchiari then took on a new challenge as Quality Engineer/Manager at Agusta S.p.A. at the Vergiate plant in Italy, where he was responsible for the quality of the final assembly of helicopters with 25 employees under his supervision. During this time, he achieved a 90 per cent reduction in the error rate per helicopter upon delivery to the airlines.

Over the next 10 years or so, he held further specialist and management positions in medium-sized and international companies in Italy and abroad, including Groupe PSA (Peugeot-Citroën), Case-New Holland S.p.A. and Tecnogas S.p.A.

During this period, he worked mainly in the automotive and household appliance sectors, particularly in positions as project manager, production manager, Head of Production Engineering and plant manager.

After around 15 years of professional experience, he moved into industrial consulting and has since been active as an independent consultant or in collaboration with other specialised consulting firms.

Marco Cerchiari has carried out many projects in medium-sized companies in various industries (automotive and automotive suppliers, household appliances, consumer goods, food) and has worked successfully with the customer teams. Overall, he has extensive experience in the implementation of lean manufacturing and total productive maintenance projects as well as the associated tools (5S, SMD, VSM, Kanban, continuous improvement, etc.). His solution expertise also covers topics such as corporate and production restructuring, reorganisation and management, as well as the optimisation of production lines, workplaces, material flows, waste reduction, etc.

  • Plant Manager at Tecnogas S.p.A. in Gualtieri/Italy, responsible for purchasing, production planning, production, engineering, quality, industrialisation and sales; industrialisation of new products and continuous improvement of existing products for maximum flexibility and productivity of assembly lines and moulding and enamelling workshops, expansion and implementation of lean production.
  • Production Engineering Manager and WCM Manager (Worldwide Car Management) at Case-New Holland S.p.A. at the Imola plant in Italy, responsible for optimising and increasing the production capacity of the assembly lines with 15 employees under supervision.
  • Production Engineer/Head of Production Engineering at Grecav S.p.A. in Gonzaga, Italy, responsible for production engineering with four employees under supervision.
  • Programme Manager at Groupe PSA in the Citroën Design & Style Centre in Vélizy-Villacoublay, France, for the for medium to large car platform (C5 and C6), development of new car styles up to the pre-industrialisation phase, including budget management and allocation of resources assigned to the project, PQR (planning, quality, resources) management.
  • Quality Engineer & Manager at Agusta S.p.A., responsible for the quality of final assembly of helicopters at the Agusta plant in Vergiate/Italy with about 1,000 employees, management of 25 employees.
  • Design Engineer and later Quality Assurance & Test Engineer Manager at HP S.r.l. in Sassuolo/Italy, managing 7 employees, achievement of ISO 9001 certification.
