Prof. Dr Mohamed Elshazly holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering as well as a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, both from the Faculty of Engineering of the Cairo University in Egypt. He subsequently completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering as part of a channel scheme between the Cairo University and the University of Hull in the United Kingdom.

After completing his studies, he began his professional career as a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of Engineering of the Cairo University and, at the same time, as a Mechanical Design Engineer at the Tribology, Equipment & Spare Parts Design Centre (TESPDC) of the Cairo University. From the outset, he thus combined a high level of academic expertise gained from teaching with best practices from practical engineering work as well as consultancy for leading Egyptian industrial clients.

As part of his academic career, he rose through the ranks at the Faculty of Engineering of the Cairo University, first becoming Assistant Professor of Mechanical Design & Tribology, then Associate Professor of Mechanical Design & Tribology, and has finally been Full Professor of Mechanical Design & Tribology at the Faculty since 2025. During this time, he also served as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Design & Production Technology at the German University and the British University in Cairo, as well as Associate Professor of Mechanical Design at King Saud University in Muzahmia in Saudi Arabia.

As part of his consultancy career and achievements, he first became Vice Director and subsequently Director at the TESPDC of the Cairo University, a strategic position which he still holds today. At the same time, he continues to find it an inspiring challenge to work as an independent Consultant for technological solutions as well as engineering consultancy & services for his own industrial clients. His practical achievements in the field of industrial planning & layout include, e.g., the East Port Said Industrial Park (≈378,000 m²) for food processing including single-gate logistics & substations, as well as the pipeline design & stress analysis for the L’Oréal factory in 10th of Ramadan. His achievements in the field of mechanical design include, e.g., the design of a 130-tonne silo as part of the ‘Black Sand’ project by Hassan Alam Sons, the 60,000-tonne Mafalsa grain storage facility, the 90,000-tonne Dandara grain storage facility, API 650 storage tanks for the Al-Atf and Kuraymat power stations, silos & steel structures for the Gulsan factory, as well as a lifting spreader for a 275-tonne diffuser at the Alexandria Sugar Company. In the field of industrial control, his achievements include, e.g., the regular maintenance of the Middle Egypt Flour Mills Company’s plants at the Al-Wasta, Beni Suef, Fayoum, Nefertiti, Mallawi and Assiut sites. In addition, he has provided construction supervision, e.g. during the construction of the El Shakhr El Arabi marble & granite factory, carried out fault analyses and much more.

Prof. Dr Mohamed Elshazly is the author of more than 28 peer-reviewed publications in international engineering journals on the topics of tribology, finite element analysis, metal forming, hard coatings, friction stir welding and triboelectric nanogenerators. He also holds patents and is a recognised expert in finite element analysis software such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN and LUSAS, as well as in computer-aided design tools such as SolidWorks.

He is an active Member of the Egyptian Society for Tribology and has presented his research findings at numerous international conferences, including the MDP Conference at Cairo University and the international EGTRIB conferences. In his role as Director at the TESPDC of the Cairo University, he also acts as a key bridge between academia and Egyptian industry, supervising PhD research and application-oriented engineering projects that deliver concrete industrial solutions.
