Clara Musama holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics & Public Administration from the University of Zambia as well as a Master of Science in Finance & Financial Law from the University of London/UK. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies from the Management College of Southern Africa.
After graduating, she began her career in procurement, contract management and business analysis within the energy and mining industries. She started as an Inventory Analyst at Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines and subsequently worked as a Contracts Officer for international energy markets at the National Grid Company in the UK.
She then moved to Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc. (CEC) in Zambia, where, as Contracts Officer & Business Analyst, she led, for example, the contract negotiations and commercial processes for a fibre-optic telecommunications project worth around 10 million USD. In the further course she became first Communication & Public Relations Officer and then Senior Manager Investor Relations, responsible for investor relations communication during the initial public offering (IPO) on the Lusaka Stock Exchange, communication with over 3,500 shareholders, as well as the establishment of a comprehensive investor relations function in compliance with the relevant securities and capital market regulations. Another internal challenge was then her role as Senior Manager Business Development (West Africa), with responsibility for cross-border acquisition and expansion initiatives as part of the privatisation process of the Nigerian energy sector. She led international cross-functional teams, including, for example, the project to acquire a 60% stake of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
Following the successful acquisition of the shares of AEDC, Clara Musama became Director of Corporate Services/Company Secretary at CEC Africa Investments Ltd., responsible for the integration of AEDC as a Nigerian subsidiary of CEC Africa. She subsequently became Chief Change Management Officer at AEDC in Nigeria, responsible for the transformation from a public to a private utility company, including the redesign of organisational structures, over 130 company-wide business processes, as well as the employee lifecycle processes.
Her next challenge was her role as Change Management Consultant/Coach at Tetra Tech USA for a USAID Engendering Industries programme. She was specifically responsible for advising and coaching leadership teams at nine international energy utilities – in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe – on implementing the transformation towards greater diversity, equity and inclusion in traditionally male-dominated industries.
Following her structured and evidence-based approach, she is, among other things, a certified Global Leadership & Assessment Coach, Master Team Transformation Coach, Genos360 Emotional Intelligence Assessment Coach, Resilient Leaders Consultant and Change Management Practitioner (PROSCI), all from internationally recognised organisations. She is also a Board Member & Company Secretary of the Copperbelt Energy Nigeria Board, a Member of the Institute of Directors of Zambia, as well as a Member of the Professional Coaches Association of Zambia.
In her current role as a Managing Consultant in HR and management consultancy, she brings her extensive strategic and operational as well as multicultural experience across various functions and sectors to benefit her clients.
